Since climate change has pushed the start of fall into mid-October around here, I've had to wait to really start churning out fall-appropriate drinks, with lots of brown spirits and oaky ports and nutty sherries and savory botanicals...you get the idea. I'll be playing around with these for a while to catch up.
3/4 oz @oldspiritsco
vintage blended Scotch
1/4 oz @laphroaig
10 year single malt
1 oz amontillado sherry
1 oz ruby port
Stirred, up, and garnished with lemon and orange wheels.
Smoky, nutty, chewy. Dry and crisp, with subtle citrus from the lemon and orange wheels. I was tempted to go all for the Laphroaig, but the Old Spirits Scotch--a vintage bottle of VAT 69--was the right mix of smooth and warm and subtly smoky, letting a small bit of peaty Laphroaig go a long way here. Told you I'd be parceling that one out.
