I think one of the things I've learned is that the best habits start slow and grow from there. This is how I've learned to make budgeting a part of daily life, how I've developed exercise habits I'm happy with, how I've increased my recipe repertoire, how I've been able to read more books etc. and I think it's hard at first because you don't often see the exciting change in a day, or a week, but over time there's a huge difference! So if you're feeling discouraged, like I sometimes feel, be encouraged instead! As long as you are starting, you can grow and develop new habits :)
