I’ve been having bad days for a few weeks. Our finances are so low, we can’t afford my medicine or doctor’s appointments. We can barely cover rent and groceries. I’m fighting an ED relapse. I feel empty. My illnesses are worse than ever. Life is really hard right now. So, what do I do in dark times?
I acknowledge that I’m human, so life will be messy and painful at times.
I allow myself to cry and scream to release that energy.
I put social media on hold, because it can be a very dangerous and toxic place.
I don't force myself to "look at the bright side". Instead, I take time to reset.
I verbalize all of the things I'm grateful for and all of things I *don't* hate. Despite hardship, I have much to be thankful for.
I focus on body neutrality instead of body love.
I do simple tasks that are "normal" to me. Cleaning the house, cooking a meal, or just showering. Sometimes, when I don't feel normal, doing something normal helps me feel that way.
I look at my life with softer eyes. Instead of searching for the flaws and failures, I honor the distance traveled since the beginning. Where I came from and who I'm becoming give me hope for who I will be.
After all this, I pray in solitude (for you this may be walking in nature, meditating, or anything that calms your mind/grounds you)
I recenter my focus on what we DO have. Sure we don't have money or health or a car, but we have love, teamwork, and determination.
Bad days are inevitable, but we’ve survived every bad day so far, and we will survive this one.
The holidays can be stressful and depressing. In the comments, unburden yourself. Vent to me. Share your feelings and release the negativity. The holidays are also a joyous time for many, so those of you feeling cheerful, share what you're grateful for and offer some support to those struggling. (Leggings by @bigbottombehavior)
In elementary school, we had a counselor named Ms. LaFleur. She encouraged us to share the “warm fuzzies” and the “cold pricklies” of life and learn how to communicate both the good and bad of our days!
Since the world has enough cold pricklies (🙈) let’s blow up the comment section with the warm fuzzies of our lives! Gratitude opens doors to more relationships, improves sleep, and boosts your self esteem! BOOM, what are you thankful for?
Comment below and I double dare you to engage with 3 other commenters to spread the warmth and allll the fuzzies! Life’s too short not to celebrate the good stuff! 🌵🌺🙌🏻
